Poplar tree

A poplar tree planted in the 1960s on the plot adjacent to the campus of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie at Fred. Roeskestraat 94. Because of the construction of a new residential housing building, the tree was felled in the summer of 2025.

Poplar trees aged 70–80 years, in an attempt to conserve moisture, may suddenly drop branches weighing hundreds of kilograms on hot, windless days.

The tree was transported to the Stadshout sawmill after its felling to be processed into timber, dried, and returned to the academy as raw material.
